Emergency Medical Responder
The Emergency Medical Responder involves individuals with a desire to help those who are injured or ill. An Emergency Medical Responder provides limited emergency medical services to patients until the arrival of an EMT. Emergency Medical Responder courses are held on an as-requested basis only. Curriculum: (Minimum 40 hours)
- Prepatory (6 hours)
- Introduction to EMS Systems
- Well-Being of the First Responder
- Legal and Ethical Issues
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Lifting and Moving Patient - Airway Mangement (8 hours)
- Patient Assessment (5 hours)
- Circulation (8 hours)
- CPR and Circulation - Illness and Injury (8 hours)
- Medical Emergencies
- Poisoning
- Behavioral Emergencies
- Shock, Bleeding, and Soft Tissue Injury
- Injuries to Muscles and Bones - Childbirth and Children (4 hours)
- Childbirth
- Pediatric Emergencies
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age by completion of course
- Be of good moral character, motivated to serve
- Be free of any criminal convictions
- Satisfy requirements of ORC 4765-12-07
- High school Diploma or GED
