The Emergency Medical Responder involves individuals with a desire to help those who are injured or ill. An Emergency Medical Responder provides limited emergency medical services to patients until the arrival of an EMT.

Curriculum: (Minimum 40 hours)

• Prepatory (6 hours)

  - Well-Being of the First Responder
  - Legal and Ethical Issues
  - Anatomy and Physiology
  - Lifting and Moving Patient
• Airway Mangement (8 hours)
• Patient Assessment (5 hours)
• Circulation (8 hours)
  - CPR and Circulation
• Illness and Injury (8 hours)
  - Medical Emergencies
  - Poisoning
  - Behavioral Emergencies
  - Shock, Bleeding, and Soft Tissue Injury
  - Injuries to Muscles and Bones
• Childbirth and Children (4 hours)
  - Childbirth
  - Pediatric Emergencies

Applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years of age by completion of course
• Be of good moral character, motivated to serve
• Be free of any criminal convictions
• Satisfy requirements of ORC 4765-12-07
• High school Diploma or GED
