In 2000 the Academy was founded by the de la Porte family and Tina began running it as a continuing education site. In 2002, she lead the accrediatation for teaching initial certifications for EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic. Since then she has received her instructor certification in many different areas. Tina continuously finds ways to continue her education to not only keep her Paramedic knowledge strong but also to keep the Academy up to date on current protocols and standards. This summer she will start her endeavor towards a Bachelor's degree to take the Academy to the next level and meet the National Curriculum.
EMS Background
Tina started working as a Paramedic for LifeCare Ambulance in 1992. She ran high volume calls full-time until 2001 where she took her experience and brought it full time into the classroom. Tina still continues to work on squad part-time to maintain her field experience and National Registry certification. Tina brings her years of knowledge in both practical and didactic skills to keep the Academy running and strong. As the Director she needs to not only be knowledgeable about the latest protocols and advances but also about how to convey them in a way people can understand.
Quote
"Students always feel so relieved when they graduate; they feel complete. Graduating is a great accomplishment but it's just the beginning. The real work starts when you start saving lives and accepting the ones you can't."
